MARILYN VIRGINIA AKA VIRGINIA CREEPERS CLUB. said on 06th June ...
"FOR THE RECORD THE REVIEWS BELOW ARE PRIOR TO MY ROCKIN' CLUB.... VIRGINIA CREEPERS CLUB, MOVING TO THE OLD KINGS HEAD IN FEBRUARY 2008.
UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT IT IS A GREAT EVEN FABULOUS VENUE BUT THE NEW MANAGEMENT, THERE SINCE JANUARY 2008 DO NOT SEE FIT TO PUT IN PROPER SOUND/DECKS/LIGHTING EQUIPMENT AND I HAVE TO HIRE EVERYTHING IN TO DO MY USUAL PROFESSIONAL JOB!!.
THE OLD MANAGEMENT..... ROCK N ROLL GUYS, HAD EVERYTHING IN THERE, WHICH THE REVIEWS BELOW ARE ALL ABOUT, BUT...... THEY TOOK IT ALL WHEN THEY LEFT OF COARSE!! I HAD ALREADY BOOKED MY NITES AND BANDS FOR THE NEXT 6 MTHS!!! ITS A STRUGGLE, BUT AM WORKIN ON THE OWNERS TO MAKE THEIR MINDS UP WHAT THEY WANT, A ROCKIN VENUE TO BE PROUD OF OR...... WHAT!!
COME AND SEE FOR YOURSELVES... THE COOLIEST VENUE IN NORTH LONDON!!
MY RATINGS ARE BASED ON MY OWN NITE ONLY.

MARILYN VIRGINIA"

"This is exactly what you all say, a pub with cheap drinks and cheap bands. And you get what you pay for, the beers awful, the bands worse and its more like a kids playground than a bar.

Im a metaller and i wont touch it (and I live around the corner).

Avoid!"

"I visited this pub last weekend, for the first time since it's revamp. Much imroved, but does feel a little like a poor man's Big Red.
Drinks were pretty cheep, but it didn't quite manage to capture the same atmosphere that I have seen Ben culitvate over the last few years at the red...but hey, give it time. I remember when Big Red opened and it's really come on in leaps and bounds. I will go back to the King's Head, it's definitely worth a visit."

"Where I'm from, southampton, there are a few pubs that have an appeal like this place, they all sold over priced drink and had the same seedy regulars.
But at the Old Kings Head, I felt like there was something different, something better!
I didnt have to over load my voice just to talk to the guy a few inches from me, i could relax, the drink is cheap! I paid just £2 for a gig (by chance) and it was great!
unfortunatly to some people the term DEVIL WORSHIPPERS, means anyone who wears black and expresses there views. But, worshipping the devil is fine, people worship god, and this place wasn't anything as bad like people say!

"I think you may be under a few misaprehensions about metal music, only some bands use anti religious titles or satanic symbology, however they are few, they mainly do it for shock tactics and in your case it sounds like it has worked. I am a performer that does shows there too and i am a horror magician, i gut people for a living but that does not make me a satanist or even a mass murderer. It is a show for people to enjoy who like that genre. Alot of things go on there that are really good and for people like yourself to enjoy but you seem to hone in on the negative aspects without even stopping to look for the posotive. And in response to them all being Satanists, you will find that no they aren't and the number of true satanists in this country are quite few. "

"The Old Kings Head is a very good pub, great people and great staff - very friendly. There may not be very many people but it's a very relaxed atmosphere and great music!

Go check it out!"

"What a big disappointment. No atmosphere, no customers. You feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed sitting there watching the stoney faced bar staff. "

"The best DJ pub ever!!! DJ's are knowledgeable and friendly (if you ask them for stuff, they'll mix some up for you!), great beer and a great atmosphere.

There's no stuck up people and all the staff are welcoming and certainly an interesting bunch!"

"Absolutely great pub and live venue. Brightens up gloomy Holloway loads.

Staff are fantastic and certainly not the kind of people you usually find behind a bar.

Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly... Music is fantastic. Very late license... It's open til 5am at the weekends and the DJ nights are certainly entertaining.

Great live bands covering everything from outlaw country to heavy metal.

Also the cleanest pub in Holloway area. You won't find a single idiot as the friendly door staff are fantastic.

I urge you to go say hello to this wierd and wonderful cast of characters (and thats just the staff)"

"Top little place - the late licence has meant a couple of pretty raucous nights here since I discovered it with mates a few weeks ago. Now on first-name terms with several of the bar staff when we go in, they play good music (if you like rock, that is), and the live music I've seen at weekends has been both good quality and stupidly cheap (£3 entry - name anywhere else that does that!). Worth a visit for sure."

"This outstanding, excellent and friendly public house is the most ideal place for chilling out, relaxing and drinking! The friendly locals are a supreme bunch of characters who always give you a good and warm welcome. With music of the highest superiority, you’d be left dancing on the tables!

"This pub is the best place i've been to since turning 18, great live bands and great DJ's playing a wide range of music. I always have a wicked night down there, the staff are fun crazy people, which all adds up to be a night to remember.
Oh and table dancing DJ's and pinball great fun."

"We went into this pub halfway through one of the clubnights and it rocks!!! music certainly makes a change from the cheesy west-end 'emo-clubs'. The DJ's are absolutely crazy and are more likely to be found diving and bouncing off everything in their path than just standing playing records. Also refreshing to actually get a good beer too!!! "

"Absolutely the best rock bar in London, bar none!!!
Cheap beer (it costs nearly £4 a beer in most rock bars - it's less than £3 here)
San Miguel!!!!
Pinball!!!(and it works!)
Friendly staff (also makes a change from most rock bars)!!!
Live Bands!!! (Heh... they even have bands like the mighty Trenchhead)
Zero crackheads!!!
No Chavvies
Good food!!!
A 'NO EMOS' sign!!! (bonus points!!)
Club nights that actually play adventurous music and not just the same crap you hear in the west end every day and has been played by everyone for ten years.
The list goes on and on!!

Anyone into rock/metal/punk/country/Harcore or in fact anything remotely alternative should check it out. They also actually have bartenders that know how to make a drink and will knock up pretty much anything you can think of!"

"I went in there on a monday and was greeted by a band that had a very offensive name, it included Jesus and swear words. After the band had finished they set up a table and started selling t-shirts with satanist images on them.

Being very foolish I went back there on friday thinking maybe it was a one off, but in the toilets they have a poster up saying the devil looks after his own...wtf?.

Seriously stay away from this pub it seems to be full of devil worshippers, its expensive and the staff/customers have no personality."

"This is not the closest pub to where I live but has become my new local very quickly. Good selection of beers, including the stunning bottled russian beer Baltika. The music is mainly rock, but never too loud to get in the way of a good conversation. Rarely an Arsenal fan seen, even on match days. Open till 3am Fridays and Saturdays and good bands playing there frequently."

"I'm surprised at the poor reviews on here. I really like the place. The music certainly isn't mainly 80's cock rock! I've heard everything from Hank Williams to Deicide played in there! The drinks are no more expensive than anywhere else (Wetherspoons excluded) and I really enjoy the bands they've had play there. "

"I live near this pub, and I went in last night to play some pinball. There were three people in the place. . . I didn't want a drink right away, but the bartenders said that you had to buy a drink if you wanted to play pinball. I felt very unwelcome and left.
After reading the other reviews, I guess I wasn't wrong feeling the way I did. There's a place down the street that I'll go to instead- since this place apparently has all of the business it needs."

"It has has a recent revamp (no pun intended) and gone a bit goth in a back room. It's not as cliched as first might appear. The music is mainly 80's cock-rock, likely cashing in on the sucess of nearby Big Red. Worth a look if you want a change. "
