Good place I reckon. They do discount drinks during open mic nights and they have a juke box and Pool. Nice couches by the windows. Can't fault it really, perhaps the drinks could be cheaper is all. It's kinda a relief to go to a pub which hasn't been funkified with some tacky theme.
I performed at the open mic taking on a talented duo, check out the venue:

Mr. Mills- Right name, wrong pub! In actual fact, THIS Hope and Anchor serves a nice selection of pub food, reasonably priced in a comfortable atmosphere- Tuesday thru Saturday, 12:00-5 pm. No stuffy waitstaff, no uptight policies, plenty of seating, good food!

Featured ColumnistIn my opinion this is a pub with an attitude. There's a bar and pub area upstairs with fruit machines and the like while downstairs is a small venue with stage and soundsystem. I have heard recently that this place has become more trendy but I did orginally go there to see a friend's band playing. The prices are typical of the area-too high but it is made up for with the clientele and lack of crowding at the weekend (or so i found). I would gladly return although I did seem to spend too long looking for somewhere to sit, this is because its not awfully big and so to prevent crowding there are therefore less tables.
Hello, I'm on a mission to visit and rate every pub, club and bar in the UK. I know what your thinking but don't worry- i've got an artificial liver on standby.read about Gregory Cristal's progress on his blog http://barblog.lastminuteliving.com/

"Don't know what it's like now but it really shook in '77, '78 downstairs in the basement bar with bands like The Stranglers, X-Ray-Spex, Wilko Johnson Band, XTC, The Only Ones, Dire Straits and others. A good punk venue with lots of pogoing and gobbing. It's first on the list when I return to London. Check it out, especially for the music."

"The service in this place leaves a lot to be desired. They have a ludicrous "policy" of not allowing anyone from a group to sit down before you're all ready to sit down, so three of us were left standing around for five minutes, when we could have been perusing the (extremely meat-centric) menu, or just relaxing, for heaven's sake. The waiter who smugly told me that it's "their policy" to do so was incredibly rude. He seemed to have no conception of pleasing one's customers. "Clearly that's what happens when a few good reviews go to a place's head. The food was average at best, and the cassoulet was bony and fatty, really not nice at all. We were poured wine without being given the chance to taste it, and when we complained about the vinegary taste, we were told that perhaps it was our fault for not understanding that type of wine. PLEASE! Overall, a real disappointment - the abominable service ruined what could have been a decent lunch."
