Lenin on roller blades? Christ with shopping bags? There sure is nothing Banksy can't juxtapose. An exhibition at the Andipa Gallery, held from April to May '09, showcased some of such rare and original works by the graffiti artist, including a pastiche of a classic life-size Hopper painting and many of his original iconic stencils on canvas, pallet and steel. It was a rare opportunity to see urban street art within a minimalistic space - a small exhibition room tucked away in South Ken - at no charge. The modest set-up could have easily fooled uninformed callers-in, though: all the works on display were for sale, fetching from a few thousands £ for the stencils to (gasp) £1 million for the impressive Hopper imitation. Overall, an enjoyable Saturday afternoon experience, that provided many laughs and the chance to see the urban pieces before they'd been whisked away to a millionaire's mansion.
